A few words on faa approval We consider the Fresh Aero map Light a major improvement in Grumman cockpit and cabin lighting. Intrinsic safety and easy installation with no modifications to the airframe or existing wiring make the Map Light a excellent lighting solution for your AA5 series aircraft.
But even minor modifications to certified aircraft may need some type of FAA approval to be legally used in the aircraft. If you install the Map Light in your aircraft, you may need at least a FAA field approval to be completely legal and airworthy.
The FAA people we have talked with consider the installation of this unit a minor add-on that would be a "non-issue" with just a log book entry. At most, The Map Light can be easily approved using the field approval process. (337 form).
Many consider it nothing more than a light bulb replacement. Please talk to your local FAA Flight Standards Office for more information.
In the photo below, the blue light you see on the right is from the overhead Fresh Aero Easy Light with a blue LED head. This light would normally be the same color as the Map Light but we wanted to show the contrast. ![]()
In the photo below, There are green LEDs in the Map Light
and a red LED head in the Easy Light.

Please Note: Blue LED Map Lights are not currently available. We cannot purchase the blue LED subassemblies that are used in our Map Lights -- at least in practicle quantities. We do have a small supply of white, red and green but this situation will eventually apply to the remaining Map Light colors. We are working on an alternative solution to this issue but can't devote much time to it as the market for these lights is very small. We will keep you posted. We're sorry if this causes you any inconvenience but it's the best we can do at this time. If you've been thinking of purchasing one of these lights, now would be a good time.
Map Light with Red LEDs -- $14.90
Map Light with Green or White LEDs -- $17.90
