It’s a fact!

A voltmeter is one of the best ways to monitor your aircraft’s electrical system . An aircraft’s ammeter provides some information but usually, the resolution of the standard “run of the mill” ammeters in our aircraft leave a lot to be desired as system charging and discharging is difficult to determine (think very minuscule needle movement).

A voltmeter will indicate precisely what your electrical system is doing. A normally charging system will indicate about 14 volts - depending on how  your voltage regulator is configured (on 12/14 volt systems) An electrical system that is discharging will indicate a voltage below 12 volts - so it’s probably time to make a precautionary landing - especially at night.

Voltmeters are excellent for diagnosing an overcharging and battery capacity too. Overcharging will cook batteries and sensitive aircraft electronics. Battery capacity is starting the engine. If the “cranking” voltage is several volts below a charged battery, it’s probably time to replace it - or at least perform a more extensive load test.

This digital voltmeter is designed for 12/14 volts systems and just plugs into a standard 12 volt  receptacle and displays the voltage in a bright red 3 number readout.

This voltmeter will provide an early warning of electrical system failure and may save the day - and maybe a whole lot more.

Three Port Voltage Receptacle Adaptor

We also have a 3 port voltage receptacle adaptor that is very handy when you need to plug in more that one accessory like a GPS or cell phone charger. The adaptor plug will swivel 90 degrees to orientate the adaptor where you want it. A red LED indicates when power is applied the the unit.

A Few Words on FAA Approval

FAA approval should not be necessary on these digital voltmeters. They're not permanently attached to your aircraft. They just plug in to your 12 receptacle like a portable intercom.
