It’s a fact!
A voltmeter is one of the best ways to monitor your aircraft’s electrical system . An aircraft’s ammeter provides some information but usually, the resolution of the standard “run of the mill” ammeters in our aircraft leave a lot to be desired as system charging and discharging is difficult to determine (think very minuscule needle movement).
A voltmeter will indicate precisely what your electrical system is doing. A normally charging system will indicate about 14 volts -
Voltmeters are excellent for diagnosing an overcharging and battery capacity too. Overcharging will cook batteries and sensitive aircraft electronics. Battery capacity is determined by observing the voltage when starting the engine. If the “cranking” voltage is several volts below a charged battery, it’s probably time to replace it -
The digital voltmeters displayed on this page are designed for 12/14 volts systems.
Individual Features Include -
#1 This model is both a voltmeter and cabin digital temperature gauge (Celsius) with both readouts displaying concurrently. The wire lead you see is the temperature probe. It just plugs into a standard 12 volt receptacle.
#2 This gauge just adheres to a convenient flat area on your front or side panel (double sided tape included) and is configured with a cable that plugs into a standard 12 volt receptacle.
It also displays both voltage and cabin temperature, but in an alternating format. The wire lead you see is the temperature probe.
#3 Number three is similar to #1 except this gauge only indicates voltage.
These digital voltmeters will provide an early warning of electrical system failure and may save the day -
We also have a 3 port voltage receptacle adaptor that is very handy when you need to plug in more that one accessory like a GPS or cell phone charger. The adaptor plug will swivel 90 degrees to orientate the adaptor where you want it. A red LED indicates when power is applied the the unit.
A Few Words on FAA Approval
FAA approval should not be necessary on these digital voltmeters. They're not permanently attached to your aircraft. They just plug in to your 12 receptacle like a portable intercom.
